Eyebrow action

Pictured here: Last night sleeping on daddy's chest, and this morning sleeping on mommy's chest. Notice the difference? No, I'm not talking about the chest hair. This morning we discovered that the doctors removed Nina's peripheral line from her right hand. They used that line to administer certain fluids. Apparently there was some swelling in the hand, so they removed it. Nina basically had that line for most of her little life, so we were glad to see her with another free hand.

The doctors just completed morning rounds, and we learned some more good news: Nina has gone ANOTHER 24 hours without any alarms, and... she passed her first stool! Woo hoo! This means she can get rid of the remaining excess bilirubin on her own. She'll still have one UV light for a while, though, just to be sure.

One area of concern is her pH balance. Her body chemistry is slightly acidic right now, and so the doctors are going to increase the amount of base they're giving her (intravenously). The doctors continue to be impressed with her progress, though, and say that this kind of imbalance is totally normal for her gestational age. Her system is still very immature, and she's not able to regulate everything on her own.
